Ukraine is determined to sign an association agreement with the European Union during the Eastern Partnership summit due to be held in the Lithuanian capital city Vilnius in November, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security Council Andrei Klyuyev said on Thursday at a meeting with US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt. Nonetheless, Klyuyev noted, Kiev “will take efforts to develop partner relations with Russia and other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.” Klyuyev and Pyatt “discussed a wide range of issues of Ukraine-US relations, with a focus on economic aspects, i.e. the energy and trade sectors and conditions for US investors in Ukraine,” the press service of the National Security Council Secretary said. They also raised questions of cooperation in the area of security, including issues of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and the situation in the Middle East.
