Nakheel, developers of Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, has signed two contracts worth $11.7m for the design of The Palm Mall and infrastructure work on Frond N of Palm Jumeirah. The contract for the design of The Palm Mall, which is worth $6.8m, was won by RSP Architects, while Al Marwan Contracting won the $4.9m contract for the Frond N infrastructure work, Construction Week reported. Nakheel’s acting CEO, Sanjay Manchanda, said: “Today’s contract awards are another milestone for Nakheel and for Palm Jumeirah, and proof of our commitment towards continued delivery to our customers.” The Palm Mall will be a 158,000 sq m retail complex and will be located on the trunk of Palm Jumeirah. It is scheduled to open in 2014 with design work due to finish at the end of the year and construction starting early in 2013. Of the mall, Manchanda said: “The Palm Mall will be a major addition to the ever-growing number of facilities and attractions on our flagship development, and we are proud to engage RSP to design what will undoubtedly be a big draw for Palm residents and visitors.” Separately, the infrastructure work on Frond N of Palm Jumeirah will include roads network, traffic signage, street lighting, storm water drainage, vacuum sewerage, irrigation systems, potable water systems, electrical networks, telecommunication and gas networks. The Al Marwan infrastructure work is expected to begin in the next few weeks and will pave the way for another 105 beachside properties on the The Palm.
