French President Nicolas Sarkozy has met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss how to boost economic growth in the eurozone and to finalize a deal on tougher budget controls in the single currency area. Disputes over the controversial measures, known as the \"Tobin tax,\" have highlighted some strategic differences between EU leaders. Sarkozy, who has slipped behind in the polls ahead of the French presidential election in April, has pledged to introduce the tax in France, even if other European partners are not on board. \"We won\'t wait for others to agree to put it in place, we\'ll do it because we believe in it,\" he said on Friday.
