The international community should attach importance to development in Africa in drafting the post-2015 development agenda, said a Chinese envoy to the UN Thursday.
"The post-2015 development agenda should give attention to Africa's development. Development in Africa is an important component of global development cooperation and forms the basis for global development," said Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the United Nations at a UN General Assembly meeting.
The international community should attach importance to development in Africa from a "strategic" level and continue to help Africa to achieve Millennium Development Goals, he said, adding that in drafting the post-2015 agenda, "we should give priority to the special challenges and development needs of Africa. "
"African countries are faced with deteriorating development environment, decrease of development resources. They have confronted great challenges in achieving MDGs," said the envoy, stressing that the international community should adopt comprehensive measures and increase its input and support in promoting development and prosperity in Africa.
Liu also called for the improvement of development environment in Africa, strengthening development partnership, as well as full respect of the ownership of African countries.
"China has attached great importance and actively carried out multi-lateral and bilateral cooperation with Africa," said Liu.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang visited Africa in March last year and May this year respectively, announcing a series of new policies and initiatives to support the development of Africa.
The relationship between China and Africa has entered "the fast track" for overall development, said Liu.
Since China-Africa Cooperation Forum was established in 2000, China has carried out active cooperation within this framework and has gradually enhanced its assistance to Africa. In 2013, trade between China and Africa stood at 210.2 billion U.S. Dollars.
"China is ready to treat Africa in true sincerity, stand shoulder to shoulder with Africa and work in a way so as to bring Africa's development into a new realm and realize our respective dreams," said Liu.
