UK Climate change advisers have warned that protection against floods will cost UK at least BP 860 Million by 2015. Building flood defences last year, local authorities spent around BP 70m, but that amount is unlikely to rise as council budgets come under increasing pressure, the local daily, (The Guardian) said. "The Committee on Climate Change has acknowledged the work we have done to reduce flood risk for 182,000 homes over the last three years," Ministry of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said. "We are spending more than ?2.17bn over four years to protect people from flooding and our successful partnership funding model will draw in around an additional ?72m.", it added. A research released by the meteorological office in UK, showed that recent severe weather events were closely related to man-made climate change. Since the start of May, more than 3,000 houses have been affected by floods, while 55,500 houses have received a flood warning from the Environment Agency.
