The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) that spearheads the country\'s building and construction industry towards environmental sustainability, has joined hands with the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC) to certify green furniture products. This initiative, the first green furniture certification in Asia, marks an important milestone for both industry sectors. The close collaboration to green Singapore\'s furniture products was sealed under an memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed today between Tai Lee Siang, SGBC President, and James Goh, SFIC President. Under the MOU, valid for three years, both councils will promote the certification and adoption of green furniture among furniture players like the manufacturers, designers, contractors and suppliers through several platforms such as seminars, conferences, exhibitions and networking events that will be held annually. In addition, a validation taskforce headed by Prof Lee Siew Eang, Chairman for SGBC\'s Technical Committee, will be set up to meet the stringent criteria for the new certification scheme, which will be ready in two months.
