South Korean airlines to cut fuel surcharges for April

South Korean airlines will lower their fuel surcharges for international flights in April due to the recent fall in jet oil prices, airline officials said Monday. Fuel surcharges that South Korean airlines add to one-way flights to the United States will be US$165 next month, down from the present $176, the officials said. They said fuel surcharges on flights bound for Europe and Southeast Asia will be $158 and $62 next month, down from the current $168 and $66, respectively. They also said fuel surcharges on domestic flights will be held steady at the current price of 13,200 won ($11.8) next month. The government-set surcharge system allows the carriers to adjust surcharges for international and domestic routes monthly in tandem with the average price of fuel oil traded through Singapore\'s spot market in the previous month. The average price of jet fuel hovered at $3.06 a gallon from Feb. 16-March 15, slightly down from $3 a gallon from Jan. 16-Feb. 15.
