Tripoli - ANSA

\'\'The immigration flow is a cause for concern for both countries involved\'\'. So said Italy\'s foreign affairs minister Gulio Terzi\'s at a press conference in Tripoli, after holding talks with prime minister Ali\' Zidane, which saw the ministers in agreement on many points related to immigration. \'\'Stability and security are the priorities for both governments and we intend to work together on these issues,\'\' said Terzi, who is the first foreign minister to meet with Libya\'s new executive branch. \'\'Italian businesses have been working in partnership with their Libyan counterparts for years already and they intend to pursue even further with this.\'\' Journalists asked Zidane on news regarding the 600 million euros owed to Italian business working in Lybia during Gheddafi\'s rule and the unfreezing of a billion euros by the Lybian Investment Authority concerning Finmeccanica and Unicredit, to which he replied, \'\'We will fulfil our commitments but we are affected by circumstances that also need to be considered.\'\' \'\'Our goverment considers improving relations with the international communities and settling all matters related to achieving this end a top priority,\'\' added Zidane, \'\'We will do this, within the framework of our current situation.\'\' \'\'Italy is our first partner and we care about maintaining relations with the country,\'\' explained Zidane, \'\'We will do our utmost to find a solution to the problems that we inherited from our past. We hope that our friends, neighbours and partners will take into consideration and be understanding of our needs during this particular period of time that Lybia is facing.\'\' A Farnesina spokesperson commented, \'\'We are satisfied because Zidane\'s statements prove a very strong commitment, and this was confirmed to me further during the course of the day by the Libyan government. In regards to the question of debts, the Farnesina spokesperson added, \'\'Zidane assured his willingness to closely collaborate with the Italian government on both a political and economic level as well as in regards to safety issues.\'\' \'\'As far as problems relating to debts and other issues, such as energy supplies and the building of infrastructure, these are matters that we discussed and will be tackled again during this renewed atmosphere of partnership relations.\'\' Zidane added that \'\'Starting from today, Libya will never be a state that creates problems or that transmits extremist ideas but a state that will bring positivity on an international level, based on cooperation and mutual respect.
