
The number of people out of work in the UK fell by 58,000 to 1.91 million, its lowest level for more than six years, in the three months to November, it was announced here Wednesday.
The unemployment rate now stands at 5.8 percent of the adult working population, the office of national statistics (ONS) said. In total there are now 30.8 million people in work.
The number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance fell in December by 29,600 to 867,000, which is the 26th consecutive monthly cut, while average earnings increased by 1.7 percent in the year to November.
Unemployment has fallen by 418,000 over the past year, although the latest quarterly reduction was the smallest since July to September 2013.
