Local and international staff members of the U.N. Interim Forces in Lebanon Monday donated LL2,527,000 to the Lebanese Red Cross after a staff karaoke event. The donation was handed over at the UNIFIL headquarters in Naquora, and was presented to the Red Cross in the Bint Jbeil district, specifically the Rmeich Center’s first-aid team. The donation, according to a statement from UNIFIL, “is an appreciation of the work of the organization and its contribution to society.” Khaled Bazzi, the president of the Bint Jbeil Red Cross committee, expressed his deep appreciation for the contribution. “As an organization, we depend on donations and contributions from well-wishers because we have no source of income. UNIFIL has always offered us a helping hand, and today is one of those days.” Discussions were also held between representatives of UNIFIL and the Red Cross on a potential partnership over disaster preparedness and response, and evacuation plans.
