Jordan participates in UN Ocean Conference

Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), Sima Bahouth, on Monday, participated in the UN Ocean Conference, which will be held from June 5 to 9 in conjunction with the celebration of World Environment Day and World Ocean Day.

The Conference aims to address threats to global water, oceans and seas caused by human activities, such as pollution, those caused by effects of climate change and acidification of seas and oceans, which have a major impact on global efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve economic growth among other considerations.

In a statement, Bahouth said: “In addition to a global declaration that will be adopted by the conference, a final report will be issued summarizing the seven axes and dialogues to be held around them, which will focus on marine pollution, acidification of oceans and seas, conservation of oceans and seas and their resources, marine and coastal ecosystems, sustainable fisheries, marine technology and issues related to small island developing countries and less developed countries that depend on oceans for their livelihoods.
