The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation and representative missions in foreign countries on Wednesday celebrated the UAE Commemoration Day to honour the brave Emirati men who sacrificed their lives to defend their nation.
The celebrations were held in line with the directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to declare 30th November an annual occasion to express pride in the sacrifices and heroism of the martyrs, renew the loyalty and sense of belonging to the nation and show preparedness to offer sacrifices to keep the glory of the nation in all situations and circumstances.
The Ministry staff observed a minute’s silence and prayed to God to bless the souls of the martyrs with mercy in Paradise.
Flags were lowered at 11:31 this morning while the UAE national anthem was played in honour of the martyrs.
The UAE embassies and representative missions marked the occasion with various activities.
Celebrations abroad began between 7 and 8 am local time in respective countries, with the lowering of the flags.
At 11:30 am, members of the UAE diplomatic and consular missions, including ambassadors and heads of missions, observed a minute’s silence in honour of the martyrs and prayed for the martyrs.
At 11:31 am, flags were hoisted while the national anthem was played in acknowledgement of the pride in the martyrs’ sacrifices and to show solidarity with their families.
The UAE Commemoration Day, originally referred to as Martyrs Day, was first observed last year on 30th November.
