An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted offshore Atacama in northern Chile at 9: 12 am local time (12:12 GMT) on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The epicenter, with a depth of 32.4 km, was initially determined to be at 28 degrees south latitude and 71 degrees west longitude. The University of Chile's Seismological Service reported a slightly different reading, saying the earthquake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale, with an epicenter located 42 kilometers north of La Higuera, at a depth of 56 kilometers. Chile's national Emergency Office said there were no reports of considerable damage or victims.
