Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) will ease the pressure on Tubli recycling station. Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina stressed the strategic importance of the STP plant, which was built on reclaimed land in Muharraq
"The water treatment plant represents a major leap forward for sewage treatment infrastructure in Bahrain", he said.
He said that the newly-built plant is equipped a hi-tech network to transport used water, reduce emissions and ensure viscous liquid and viscous residues are not dumped in the sea.
The STP station ensures other key functions, including pre-treatment, nutrient removal, integrating disc filter technology which is capable of capturing particles as small as ten microns and disinfection using both UV and chlorine.
In a statement today, Dr. bin Daina said that an irrigation network would also be set up to use the recycled water in the farming sector. He pointed out that an impact assessment study has revealed that the hydrogen sulfide gas treatment unit has enough aeration.
