
Kuwait Dive Team lifted on Tuesday disposable fishing nets found north of Umm an Namil Island.
Head of the operation Faisal Al-Harban told KUNA that the fishing nets posed a threat to the marine creatures near the Island, noting that the team tried as a much as possible to save the lives of fish tangled in the nets.
Al-Harban said that it was illegal to dispose of fishing nets in the bay of Kuwait area; however, some fishermen continue to break the law, putting the life of fish and other marine life in jeopardy.
He called on the authorities to tighten laws in regards to such malpractices, affirming that it was the duty of all people to protect the marine environment of Kuwait.
