
British arms manufacturer BAE Systems on Monday said it had won a contract to upgrade more than 130 South Korean F-16 fighter jets. The work, reported by British media to be worth more than $1.0 billion (807 million euros), would be done by the company\'s US-based Support Solutions unit, BAE added in a statement. \"The Republic of Korea has selected BAE Systems to upgrade the avionics and electronic systems for its fleet of F-16 aircraft,\" the British company said. \"The Korean government will deliver a letter of request for BAE Systems\' US-based Support Solutions business to be the sole source systems integration contractor for upgrading more than 130 F-16s.\" Dave Herr, president of BAE Systems Support Solutions, added: \"This is a strategic international win for us, significantly expanding our aircraft upgrade and modification business.\"
