Chrysler recalls 1.2m Ram trucks

US automaker Chrysler said it would recall about 1.2 million trucks that have steering system tie rods that may become misaligned. The recall involves approximately 726,000 vehicles that do not need any repair work, The Detroit News reported Saturday. The automaker said it was "casting a wider net than necessary," to be on the safe side. The recall includes 1,136,400 model year 2003-2012 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks, the majority of which are not expected to require service, the News said. In addition, Chrysler is recalling 43,500 model year 2008-2012 Ram 4500 and 5500 4x4 chassis cabs. Owners of the 4500 and 5500 model under recall can bring their vehicles in for interim servicing until parts become available in January. "Any [vehicles] found to have suspect tie-rod assemblies will have those components replaced at no cost to customers," Chrysler said. The News said 968,000 of the recalled vehicles were in the United States, while an additional 157,000 were in Canada.
