
More than 89,000 companies were created in during the first five months of 2014, bringing the total number of economic operators in Algeria to 1,720,936, the National Center for Trade Register (CNRC) said.
Among the 89,431 registrations in the trade register commercial register (start-ups) recorded from January to the end of May, 81,558 companies (91.19%) are natural persons while 7,873 companies represent corporations, according to a report of this organization.
Retail tops the industries that have the largest number of registrations with 37,441 registrations, i.e. 790 by natural persons, followed by the services sector (35,045 natural persons and 3,017 corporations).
Industrial production came in third with 11,345 registrations made by natural persons and 2343 by corporations.
At the end of May 2014, the national economy was comprised of 1,720,936 economic operators registered in the trade register against 1,678,791 operators at the end of 2013, i.e. an increase of 2.5%, according to the same source.
