The on-going, co-operative efforts of the National Programmes & Development and Recruitment departments at Dubai Aluminium, DUBAL, the entirely state-owned corporation that operates the world’s largest single-site primary aluminium smelter using pre-baked anode technology, have been rewarded through the appointment of 30 young UAE Nationals mid-March this year. The new recruits, all of whom were reached through the corporation’s participation in open days, career fairs and Tanmia activities held at various educational institutes, have joined DUBAL’s Pre-employment Course, PEC, Smelter, a six-month training programme that provides trainees with the theoretical knowledge and practical on-the-job experience required to fulfil assigned tasks in the Smelter Operations area. The group was welcomed to DUBAL during a dedicated event at the corporation’s premises on 17 March 2013. Sultan Al Sabri (Vice President: HR&OE) gave the welcome address, during which he highlighted the importance of individual commitment and respect for the training opportunities on offer. Al Sabri also highlighted DUBAL’s proudly UAE roots and the corporation’s adoption of best practice in all aspects of the business, including a defined career path for employees’ development. He emphasised DUBAL’s strong focus on safety and elaborated on the success of the corporation’s Nationalization Strategy. “Approximately 68 per cent of our senior management comprises UAE Nationals,” Al Sabri commented. “Our goal is to continually increase the number of UAE Nationals employed at DUBAL.” During the welcome ceremony, Mohamed Ali Al Owais (Manager: Organization Development) and Al Sabri jointly presented certificates to the UAE National trainees at DUBAL who recently completed their training programmes. Mohammad Al Sabri (Head of National Programmes & Development) was also in attendance. DUBAL’s PEC Smelter programme is one of several such training initiatives within the corporation’s Nationalization Strategy. Other options include PEC Technical, PEC Desalination, PEC Power and PEC Apprentice programmes. “DUBAL welcomes applications for any of these programmes,” says Al Sabri. “Interested individuals may apply directly through our Recruitment department, or online via the DUBAL website – www.dubal.ae.” Albawaba Business
