Fiat ordered to rehire 145 union workers

A court of appeals in Italy said automaker Fiat must rehire 145 union workers it had laid off after a dispute over factory policies. ANSA reported Friday that the company set up a new corporation in 2010 to run the factory in Pomigliano D\'Arco near Naples. When it did, it failed to rehire any members of the metal workers\' union FIOM, so it could make policy changes that were in dispute. Fiat also challenged a court ruling on the matter, which sent the case to the Rome Court of Appeals. The original court decision ordered Fiat to rehire 145 union members and to pay 19 of them $3,900 in damages.
