GE 'to raise Alstom offer this week'

General Electric will make an improved offer this week for parts of the French Alstom power and rail engineering group, sources close to the matter said on Wednesday.
The head of GE, Jeff Immelt, would visit Paris on Thursday and Friday to meet the government and improve the company's bid to challenge a rival offer from Siemens and Mitsubishi, they said.
