Qatargas achieves outstanding safety milestone 20m man-hours

Qatargas, the largest LNG producer in the world, has completed over 20 million man-hours across all of its assets and projects without a Lost Time Incident (LTI) - a significant milestone demonstrating the Company’s commitment to safe performance.
Acknowledging the significance of the occasion, Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatargas CEO, said: "Safety is a core value in Qatargas that we have embedded in all of our systems. Over the past few years, we have continuously improved our safety processes and programs and introduced several initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety of our people and assets." "This milestone however, was not achieved by these programs alone. The dedication and expertise of our people and the support of our shareholder partners were crucial in making this achievement possible. As we continue our journey to be the World’s Premier LNG company, we will set ever higher safety standards and strive to reach new milestones. This achievement clearly demonstrates that we are on the right path. Qatargas operates seven LNG trains, with a combined production capacity of 42 million tonnes per annum (MTA) of LNG. Four of these are among the largest in the world, with a production capacity of 7.8 MTA each.
Laffan Refinery, one of the largest condensate refineries in the world with a refining capacity of 146,000 barrels per day, is also operated by Qatargas. Qatargas’ Ras Laffan Terminal Operations team operates all the non-LNG products tank farms and related marine terminals at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar.
This achievement is all the more significant because it has been reached during a period when three major projects, the Jetty Boil-off Gas project, the Plateau Maintenance Project and Laffan Refinery 2 are being executed by Qatargas. Several challenges including the summer weather conditions, and thousands of new workers joining the projects were successfully managed through comprehensive Health, Safety and Environment plans, training programs and compliance to the safety rules and regulations.
Qatargas has several programs and initiatives in place aimed at achieving sustained premier performance in Safety, Health and Environment. "Incident and Injury Free" (IIF) launched in 2002 and "IIF in Action" in 2014 focus on taking all necessary precautions to prevent accidents and injuries before they occur and ensure that everyone goes home safely every day.
Last year, Qatargas launched the ’10 Life Saving Rules’ that are mandatory for every employee or contractor working at Qatargas. Continuous improvement in Process Safety, enhancing risk management and strengthening the Permit to Work system are a few examples of other recent safety initiatives.
Qatargas has consistently demonstrated outstanding safety performance across its operations and projects. Earlier this year, as a testament to its continuing pursuit of an incident and injury free workplace, the Company achieved 12 consecutive years without a Lost Time Incident (LTI) across its offshore operations.
