Toyota recalls 11200 Scion iQ vehicles in US

Toyota announced Wednesday a recall of 11,200 Scion iQ cars in the United States to fix a problem that could cause airbags and seat belts to malfunction. Toyota Motor Sales, USA, said the safety recall affected certain 2012 and 2013 model years of the Scion iQs. Toyota said it would install protective covers on weight sensors in the front passenger seat that control airbags and seat belts to prevent possible damage caused by the seat sliding back and forth. No crashes or injuries have been reported relating to the problem, the company said. Toyota underlined that the recall was for US market vehicles only, and that no other Toyota, Lexus, or Scion vehicles were involved. In October, Toyota announced a global recall of 7.43 million vehicles, including its popular Camry and Corolla models and other Scion models, over a possible fire risk, in a fresh blow to the firm\'s reputation for safety. Japan\'s biggest automaker ordered the recall, which amounts to slightly more vehicles than it sold worldwide in its fiscal year to March, because of a fault with its electric windows.
