The grand vision of building a well-off society and \"a beautiful China\" proposed by the Communist Party of China (CPC) has drawn wide applause from the international community. Commenting on General Secretary Hu Jintao\'s keynote report at the opening of the 18th National Congress of the CPC, which depicts the vision and mission, Donald Lewis, a research fellow at Stanford Law School, noted that China has adopted a new, future-oriented economic development model. The model stems from the scientific outlook on development and highlights green economy and sustainable development, he told Xinhua in a recent written interview. \"No other developing country has formulated such a bold vision for the future and, if accomplished, China will join the ranks of the world\'s leading developed countries, alongside the U.S. and Europe,\" he added. Kenyan economist Gerishon Ikiara, a former permanent secretary at Kenya\'s Ministry of Transport, said that among all the topics at the congress, he is most interested in the scientific outlook on development. The scientific outlook on development places people\'s interests at the core of decision-making, and requires practical approaches to development problems, he said, adding that the theory has also provided space for innovation. Indonesia\'s International Daily News said in an editorial on Monday that Hu\'s keynote report emphasizes the scientific outlook on development, which, in terms of nation-building goals, demands the build-up both of a well-off society and of a \"beautiful China.\" The report attaches great importance to ecological conservancy, which reflects the philosophy of respecting, following and preserving the nature, the article said. Golden Phoenix, a Myanmar-based Chinese language newspaper, said in an editorial on Monday that practice has demonstrated that the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the only right way for China to seek development and progress. It has also been proven true that the path of scientific development is the only route to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, it added.
