Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, held talks on Wednesday with Pascal Lamy, director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over the second review of the trade policies and practices of the UAE. The basis for the review was a report by the WTO secretariat and a report by the Government of the UAE. The UAE and WTO affirmed the review provides a fitting opportunity to explain these policies meticulously. The WTO chief noted the growing interest of WTO member states during debates to know more about the UAE trade policies. Many countries consider the UAE as their a key strategic trading partner in the Middle East. Lamy said the UAE had succeeded to establish itself as a vibrant hub and facilitator for world trade building on its state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern land, sea and air transport network and strategic geographic location. He invited Shaikha Lubna to deliver a keynote speech at the WTO’s general forum next September. Shaikha Lubna said the UAE was looking forward for greater technical cooperation with the WTO.
